What to Do If Your Heart Breaks?

And an answer to it is Do what Munna Bhai says. 

There is a common saying, do what the heart says, love what the soul says, but what to do if heartbreaks? 

Each one of us knows what is love, what it feels to be in love but only a few know what it feels when heart is broken or only those know who had recently experienced the betrayal and broken love. Often we see in the movies and heard romantic tales of lovers dying due to separation. They simply cannot tolerate it. 

 Devdas started drinking as Paro left him, so basically, boys tell their distraught friend, “Abey yeh to Devdas ho gya”. 

 I remember once a few engineering boys talking to each other, “one of them was singing an old movie song, “Jub Dil hee toot gya, to jee key kya karenge”. And other boys started laughing, and one of them retorted this is his fifth girlfriend that left him, that means there is fifth break up for him and every time his girlfriend leaves him, he sings an old movie breakup song and we all in fact enjoy it.  

But ask someone who genuinely loves but faced traumatic experience of love, No situation is as bad as the broken heart; it is the saddest thing in the world. Emotionally and psychologically we feel now our life is utterly meaningless without any emotions. We give our heart and soul to the love, and now it is gone, nothing left except emotional vacuity, emptiness, and darkness. 

But is a broken love everything in life? While writing this article I remember a scene of a Bollywood movie, we all Indians had loved it, yes you have guessed it right, “Munna Bhai MBBS,” a boy is in a hospital because he tried to kill himself, why as his girlfriend married someone else. 

Munna Bhai sang a song to relieve him from stress and explain to him “Ek chali gayee to doosri aa jayegi, ”this means if one girl is gone, another would one. If she is gone is not a reason to just jump in a river or from building and try to end life; there is Mom for you who love you more than you ever think.

 I have been eschewing the memories of my time I had to spend with my boyfriend, who was so loveable and so adoring, but as time passed, he was gone.


 I was broken from inside, and though hiding my woes from the outside world was killing myself and my soul from inside. No one was able to give me solace, till one day, a sudden awakening came in me when I saw my mom bringing lunch for me. This is no doubt not a new thing, but at that time when I was completely broken, my mom getting lunch for me was the biggest thing that could happen in my life.

 When I asked her the reason, she replied,” I saw you are sad today, I won’t ask you what made you saddened, but I have prepared a special dish for you, yeh dish tumhari favorite hei na and it would lighten your mood”. 

So the question is how to deal with a breakup and how to overcome heartbreak, is there any solution for it? There is no one perfect way, yet experts say there are certain ways, what are they let us see?

I suggest giving this love trap a kick, laugh it off as if it is a dream and just move on. But experts suggest the following:

Feel your feelings

A broken heart is a traumatic time, but you have to come out of it, allow the tears to flow, and acknowledge that it is yet another loss. With it there might also be the time when you have to five stages of grief; anger, denial, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In the first few minutes, you can say 60 minutes, yell, scream, and do whatever you wish to do and then stop and start something fresh. 

Delete and cut all the communication 

In this phase of your life if you give to the feelings and see your ex again, you will get hurt again and this time more. So cut off completely, stop all your communication, burn the pictures, and flush them out. Delete all the communication messages. If anything of your ex remains with you, it would keep on haunting you. You definitely do not want this to happen but to continue with your life. 

Call your friends

Your friends are the biggest support for you. Call people you really care about and let them know what you have been going through. Your friends would listen to you and share your grievances with someone who gives mental relief. Maybe one of them might also have faced a similar situation as you are in so sharing with others and getting counseled reminds you that you are not alone. This really helps and will give psychological relief.

Take deep breaths and meditate

Nothing is better than taking deep breaths as it gives mental relief. Sit in a meditation pose and take deep breaths. Meditation has great power to give relief from stress and emotional trauma. It has been medically proved that is the most natural way to get mental relief and peace. Just a few minutes of meditation and you are on your go.

Forget everything and take care of yourself


Do not fret, it is not easy to forget the time you both had spent together but try to divert your mind with something fruitful. Go out in the nature, fly in fresh air, you will feel you have forgotten everything.

Start exercising, take care of yourself, and help your Mom in the kitchen. This would keep your mind away.

Life is seldom a bed of roses, but you need to make it with your determination, mental strength, will power and faith in yourself. Play the game of life well that I have learned from my experiences, we fret at the loss but no one cares, our life becomes miserable. Why makes it so if your ex does not care for you? Freak out with friends; do something of which you are passionate about, help your mother in kitchen, soon all the memories of your love pangs will wade.  

Think it like this, you are yourself your lover, and there is no one else who would love as you as much as you love yourself, so just do it. 

“Woh pyar ka nasha bhee kya hie, jisme dard hie, Pyar to who hie jisme khushi or sukoon hie. So chill guys and enjoy”.
